Chamber Singers Gear Up for Choir Tour
Maranatha Baptist University Chamber Singers roll out on their spring tour in just under two weeks. The choir can’t wait to head out toward Grand Rapids, Ohio, the first stop on their 10 – day tour. By the time they return to campus on the other side of Maranatha’s spring break, the choir will have performed in 10 different states throughout the eastern Midwest and New England.
Chamber Singers will perform in Christians schools and local churches with a variety of sacred repertoire including arrangements by Alice Parker, Ron and Shelly Hamilton, and Dan Forrest. A special favorite of the choir’s is Arise My Soul, Arise. “The message of the song deeply resonates with me,” states freshman music major Emily K. “It tells me of Christ’s love and intercession and reminds me that on this basis I can come boldly to the throne of grace.”
A couple fun, secular pieces also get pulled out for school chapels. One of them, Gossip, was written by a former member of The King Singers. Another is a text by Mark Twain set to a beautiful tune by Forrest. These pieces provide entertainment for the schools and are a great promotion for participation in music, showing the students that choir can be fun and exciting!
The purpose of tour goes deeper than the music, however. Daniel Kroll, a Chamber Singers veteran points out, “It is a unique experience to meditate on the truth of God in a corporate environment with other people who have the same goal of praising the Lord!” As the Lord uses the choir’s music to work in hearts of the listeners, the vocalists are also being blessed.
The choir is excited to see how the Lord will use them to minister throughout their tour.
