MBU Welcomes New Nursing Faculty

WATERTOWN, Wis., July 19, 2024—Maranatha’s School of Nursing is delighted to introduce both Dr. Sarah Urban and Mrs. Birgitta Donovan, who will be joining the nursing faculty this fall.

Dr. Urban brings with her a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to nursing education based on a Christian worldview. She has more than fourteen years of dedicated service in the field of nursing. She is a Certified Nurse Educator with experience teaching Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) courses. Her career has included service as a registered nurse, nurse educator, and nursing department chair/director.

Although much of her career as an educator has focused on teaching and leadership, Dr. Urban values both scholarship and research. While mentoring students, faculty, and fellow nurses, she has emphasized research-informed, critically reflective nursing practice which has helped her be successful in a variety of educational and clinical environments.

Dr. Urban’s decision to join Maranatha’s School of Nursing is rooted in her passion for nursing education based on Christian values. She looks forward to serving the Lord with her talents and helping grow nurses who practice a biblical worldview. She expresses her enthusiasm stating, “In today’s world, Christian professionals are needed more than ever, especially in influential fields such as healthcare. It will be a privilege to support higher education that is based on a Christian perspective.” Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sarah Urban to the MBU nursing faculty.

Mrs. Donovan is a familiar presence on campus, having served as the Student Health Center Coordinator for the past two years. She will continue in her role at the Student Health Center while taking on the responsibilities of teaching part time in the School of Nursing.

In addition to caring for the students on campus, Mrs. Donovan has a background working in hospital settings and providing patient care in cardiac rehabilitation and as a visiting nurse. Her experience has included initial assessment of patients, developing individualized treatment plans, implementing interventions as needed, and collaborating with members of a medical team.

Mrs. Donovan’s commitment to the mission of Maranatha and the students, along with her practical experience, make her a valuable addition to the School of Nursing faculty. Her experience in the nursing profession will provide practical insight and mentorship for nursing students. Her compassion and dedication to Maranatha’s mission will inspire the next generation of nursing students as they prepare to serve the Lord in their chosen profession.
